Last Monday night I finished work very late and was starving!!! I was to meet fahad at cafe clifton and from there we were to decide where to go for dinner.
It was almost 11 and because of the raising hunger “Zouk” sounded perfect to us but there’s always a sudden twist when it comes to my life and me. 🙂
A stupid friend called! <=== I'm only calling him stupid here because I know he will be reading this and this will only make him laugh. 🙂
We head all the way to bath island to pick him and once he was fetched :p
The conversation started and went on as below:
Stupid friend: where are we going?
Stupid friend: why?
Me: because I like the morel steak there and also be causer we have already made our mind.
Stupid friend: have you guys tried KOEL?
Fahad: that desi place?? No way we ain't going there!
Me: fahad is up for continental.
Stupid friend: who told you guys that it’s a desi place, you guys should try this place out and its cheap too. They have steaks and all the continental stuff.
Me: cheap sounds good lets go !!!
And so we then were at cafe KOEL!
We decided to sit outside and from here I shall began sharing the pictures… Yes I did it all for you guys!!! 🙂 your welcome!
Starting off with the menu.
That’s their whole menu! Not really desi … A couple of months back we walked into this restaurant and everything was so desi we ended up at cafe Flo. And forever assumed this place to be a desi steep place to dine out.
Anyways the ashtray had water and real plant in it . Very refreshing.
For starters we order prawn tempura and chicken cream soup.
The prawn tempura tasted good, the crispy covering wasn’t as thin and light as how tempura is suppose to be but I can’t be complaining about this because KOEL wasn’t promising authenticity. They are serving their own food and it’s perfectly fine to improvise and offer your own version to people. As long as it taste good it’s all cool. 🙂 the sweet honey like dipping sauce was amazing!
Soup! What I like about this soup is the generous amount of grill chicken in it. Tasted nice, not too creamy and highly filling. The thin crispy soft kolcha bread with it is a really good idea. 🙂 the bowl is half filled but this isn’t a small bowl… Mind you. :p
The Parmesan chicken steak won us over! Cooking with Chicken Breast isn’t easy and KOEL nailed it! No this is without exaggeration… I agree that Parmesan is strong umami but the texture of the chicken… Was so tender, I still haven’t yet nailed this. I have been trying to figure out how to achieve this texture and taste in a chicken breast, so far to no avail. The flavours were inside the chicken all through! Had this not been serve with the beautiful sauce it still would have stand out as a dish on its own!
Chicken lovers out there… This one goes out to you!
The potato wedges were marinated with herbs and chilli but I didn’t like it on its own, dipping it in the creamy sauce helped a lot! 🙂
My order something that wasn’t on the menu, a medium rare beef steak with mushroom sauce and sautéed spinach. I also asked for a small portion of rice. Oh and also the bake potato with sour cream topping and reduced balsamic vinegar to art my plate. 🙂
This steak was perfection! And I’m going back for more!!!
We order 2 dessert… Chocolate pudding and malt cake…
The chocolate pudding was to die for!!! The oozing out thick hot chocolate filling from the slightly crispy soft hot pudding case got me go ummmmmm, the case was so delicate it broke before we could poke our spoons in.
Fahad had to improvise asking for a scoop of vanilla ice cream with it… And no it wasn’t working together.
The vanilla was doing nothing good! And so he understood why they didn’t serve this with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
The taste of malt in this chocolate malt cake is very prominent which is a good thing, it was moist, it was chocolaty, it was almost
Like nando’s chocolat cake :p and it was delicious!
I won’t discuss the battle fahad and I fought against each other over dessert so 🙂 here’s a picture of the so yummy malt cake.
They also served us complimentary cinnamon lemon tea (without milk) in the end to wash down everything.
And when the bill came… I was expecting it to be around 4000- 5000 rupees
Keeping 2 starters, 2 heavy main, 2 extra sides, 2 dessert, 4 drinks in mind.
Moment of truth I’ll show you the bill 🙂
I love this place and so KOEL you will be seeing me a lot or let’s say quite a lot.
